Our last full day in Japan was spent at DisneySea again, and this time we had time to look around at all the different parts of the park.
This day we went on my second most anticipated ride, 20000 Leagues Under the Sea, and it was amazing.
I was really excited to see Mermaid Lagoon since The Little Mermaid is my absolute favourite Disney Movie. It was absolutely gorgeous inside and out. look at King Triton’s castle!
I love the way they made the ceiling look like the surface of the water, it’s so clever.
I was most looking forward to seeing the inside of Ariel’s grotto and it did not disappoint!
I have the worst hat hair ever in these photos and the lighting was severely unflattering, but I’m sharing them anyway because I was so excited to be there.
Probably the coolest thing in Mermaid Lagoon though was this shop inside a giant whale.
The eye opened and closed.
Vert cool alchemist room inside Fortess Explorations. I love the classic apothecary crocodile (or alligator?).
Windswept Henrik.
We had a look inside the new Fantasy Springs land. I’m not a fan of the movie Frozen, but this area was pretty amazing. The forced perspective of the mountains in the background was really impressive.
Of course I loved seeing the pirate ship and scull cave, but I think their counterparts at Disneyland Paris (which we visited a few days earlier) may be even cooler-looking!
We had dinner at Vulcania, a Chinese restaurant inside the big volcano which is the centrepiece of DisneySea. I loved this place, it looked amazing and my fried rice was so good that I still think about it.
A better look at the wonderful fountain and the most impressive toilet building I’ve ever seen.
As we headed back towards the entrance for the night we got a beautiful surprise sunset view of Mount Fuji. I don’t remember if I wrote this in a previous post but we could actually see Mount Fuji from our hotel window when the weather was clear.
A last look at the volcano!
Finally, here are some video clips from our days at Tokyo Disney Resort.
Ahhh the 20,000 leagues under the sea ride sounds so cool but also kind of frightening. (^_^)'' My first time to Disneyland I was quite young, so I barely remember anything except I know we went on the Submarine Voyage, and I was terrified of being in a submarine. I looked it up just now and saw that it was actually a boat with seats below water level. I also just learned: "During the summers of 1959–1967, female cast members dressed in mermaid costumes could be seen sun-bathing themselves and performing synchronized swimming and underwater stunts for four hours each day. Disney ended this feature in 1967 and replaced them with animatronic creations after several mermaid performers reported health concerns, related to the submarines' diesel exhaust fumes and the highly chlorinated water."
So I went down a rabbit hole and thought you might find these interesting, too, although you're probably already familiar with it: https://disneytriviaguy.blogspot.com/2018/07/disneyland-submarine-voyage-real.html
And this was kind of funny: https://www.reddit.com/r/submergedanimatronic/comments/13y3clv/disneyland_submarine_voyage_mermaids_circa_2001/?rdt=56841
I pulled up the Japan ride teaser for 20,000 leagues, and IDK if I could do the enclosed pods, but it looks so cool. Did you read the book? And/or see the Disney film of it? I haven't yet for either but am interested in it.
Thanks for sharing more trip photos & video! It was a lot more fun reading through and catching up on your blog this morning instead of reading the daily paper. 💛🐰
